May 25th- May 28th

Happy Thursday Parents, We've had a great week back in class! Students have been enjoying their return to the social interactions of school as well as readjusting to everything class life has to offer! We have had fun adding a few familiar words from around the class to our Alpha book. Colour words, numbers, days of the week and students names have been a great starting point! What words do you see daily that you are learning how to read (these words become sight words, as our brain identifies them before even reading them by sound - An important skill in emergent readers!) New and Exciting!  -Partner centres: Starting next week, students will get to experience centres with new classmates! For the first half of center time, students will get to venture outside their comfort zone by playing with a classmate they don't usually spend time with! Please feel free to use this as a starting point for dinner table conversations! I'm certain students will have all sorts of challeng...

Bonjour chers parents, Another great week, full or learning, laughing, dancing and fun coming to a close!  We had a great time celebrating our dear Alphas as we learned our last letter for kindergarten "le wagon" (letter W). Students enjoyed searching for the Alphas, who were hiding from Furiosa the witch around the class! Those clever Alphas decided to blend in by hiding in books or close to words! This takes us to our next step in learning; finding the Alphas in books. (their appearance transforms to that of letters, to better blend in!)  Students have already enjoyed identifying letters the recognize within their classmates names! Can you spot our Alphas while reading a book tonight? New and Exciting!  -Star of the Day!- Please see photo below for details! (this information will also be sent out by email! -I believe I forgot to introduce our friend "Fripouille"! You may have heard of the letters she has been writing the students, the fun ways she introduces new...

Students have learned words such as "pluvieux" (rainy), "ensoleillé" (sunny), "venteux" (windy), "nuageux" (cloudy), "enneigé" (snowy) etc. Here is a song we use to accompany our learning:  -Many new activities have been introduced to our center time this week! Please feel free to ask your  child about their favourites and what skills they are developing while playing! -As the days are getting warmer (hopefully?) and exciting spring changes are starting to be more visible, we will...

April 12th-16th

I would like to send a giant welcome to Mme Caroline. I will be sending out an email tomorrow with her introduction, I have no doubt she will be an amazing addition to our kinder family.  With that being said we are also saying goodbye to Mme Lynley, we wish her nothing but the best moving forward!! Here is a message from Mme Lynley: Bonjour!  Goodbyes are always bitter sweet. I am sad to leave Tuscany School (and your amazing kids!) but I am excited for my next steps in the world of education. I have absolutely enjoyed getting to know each and every one of our kindergarten students. They each have their own unique personalities and gifts. I will miss the laughter and the stories that we shared everyday. Thank you for this wonderful learning opportunity. Teaching is one of those crafts that is honed only by doing. I have learned so much from Mme Chelsey and your children. I will always remember these kids and what they have taught me. Thank you so much for this opportunity. I ...

April 6th-9th This week we learned all about nutrition and the three food groups in the Canadian Food Guide. We have also created actions to go with each food group- Can your child tell you the actions of each food group?  We talked about how to properly fuel your body and how to make a healthy meal.  Here is the song we have been learning this week to help learn the names of some fruits :  J'aime les fruits We also learned how to create a pictograph sharing different information about our food groups. We also looked at how to read the graph to see which group was the most popular and which group was the least popular.  We had a presentation by our elder Saakokoto. He told us a story that has been passed down in his family for generations. It was all about being brave and how to work through hard problems and mistakes.  We only have two Alphas left!! We learned the letter "Gg" this week, we discovered that it sometimes makes the same sound as "Jj" which can be t...

March 22nd-March 26th This week we learned some Easter vocabulary and a new Alpha. We quickly figured out that Q has the same sound as C and K , which is a little tricky when we are sounding out words.  We started learning a new Math game this week. We are writing out the numbers and learning how to identify them in written form. We have been sounding them out and looking at our math wall to learn all the different sounds. We also had a Math egg hunt, where all the eggs had different Math problems the kids had to solve using strategies around the class. We have some expert egg hunters in the class and it was so much fun!  We had the amazing opportunity this week to watch Calgary Opera perform Hanzel and Gretel ! It was timed perfectly with Fun Snack day and the kiddos really enjoyed it with their popcorn. Important dates: March 26th- PM kinder -Last day before spring break April 6th- First day back to school- Library Day April 7th and 8th- Saakokoto virtual visit April 9...

March 15th-19th  ** Monday March 22nd is Unique sock day, wear your most unique socks!!** This week we have been working hard at our early addition skills. We have been breaking apart numbers and showing how many different ways we can find to create the same number. We have continued working on recognizing and writing each of our numbers and checking our number line to ensure they are written correctly. We have also been working on writing our name using only a capital letter at the beginning of our name.  We are almost done learning all about seasons and different vocabulary for Spring and Summer. The kids are practicing saying things that they like about summer " pendant l'été j'aime......"  and adding words from our brainstorming session to create full sentences.  Also, ask your child to spell l'été- we have been working hard at listening to our different sounds and writing down what we hear.  Below is our summer song we have been listening to this week...
