 March 22nd-March 26th This week we learned some Easter vocabulary and a new Alpha. We quickly figured out that Q has the same sound as C and K , which is a little tricky when we are sounding out words.  We started learning a new Math game this week. We are writing out the numbers and learning how to identify them in written form. We have been sounding them out and looking at our math wall to learn all the different sounds. We also had a Math egg hunt, where all the eggs had different Math problems the kids had to solve using strategies around the class. We have some expert egg hunters in the class and it was so much fun!  We had the amazing opportunity this week to watch Calgary Opera perform Hanzel and Gretel ! It was timed perfectly with Fun Snack day and the kiddos really enjoyed it with their popcorn.  March 15th-19th  ** Monday March 22nd is Unique sock day, wear your most unique socks!!** This week we have been working hard at our early addition skills. We have been breaking apart numbers and showing how many different ways we can find to create the same number. We have continued working on recognizing and writing each of our numbers and checking our number line to ensure they are written correctly. We have also been working on writing our name using only a capital letter at the beginning of our name.  We are almost done learning all about seasons and different vocabulary for Spring and Summer. The kids are practicing saying things that they like about summer " pendant l'été j'aime......"  and adding words from our brainstorming session to create full sentences.  Also, ask your child to spell l'été- we have been working hard at listening to our different sounds and writing down what we hear.  Below is our summer song we have been listening to this week...

 *A reminder that next week, Thursday, March 11th is an early dismissal day. Only the PM class will attend from 8:30-12:40* *March 15th is crazy hair day! * This week we did a review of the seasons we have already covered -Autumn and Winter. We also started to learn about spring and some of the things we should be able to see in spring.  We are reviewing vocabulary that we already know and learning new vocabulary words for each new season.  We have also started a new early addition game and are working on subitizing numbers on dominos and learning strategies to help us count and recognize numbers more quickly.  In early literacy, we are continuing to sounding out words we have been working on- They are doing so great with this! This week we are focusing on the difference between the sound /p/ and /b/. Can they tell you any French words that have the sound /p/? Feb 22nd-26th

Feb 22nd-26th This week we focused on acts of kindness, and how we can show kindness each day. We also discussed the history of Pink Shirt day and why we wear pink.  We had so much fun today and learned all about Dinosaurs! The kids ( and myself) were very excited to learn that birds are all dinosaurs! We even got to see real fossils and pictures of different species of dinosaurs.   We are also continuing our presentation on my family. Not everyone has had a chance to present, but we will be finishing up next week. For the presentation, they have been practicing saying the sentence " Dans ma famille j'ai_______", and noticing the difference between un vs une.  We also did the letter  C c, and are focusing on all the different sounds that the C can make.  We are also working on phonetic spelling and on writing their own words in their visual journals. For example, we have been learning about Ma famille, so a lot of them have "ma fami" written in their journa...

Feb 16th-19th

 Feb 16th-19th This week we have started learning all about Family. We discussed how each family is different, how each family celebrate different holidays and have different traditions. We are also learning all the French vocabulary this week to start our presentations on our own families on Monday. If you have not done so already, please email or send in a family photo. Here is the song we have been working on:   We are having our second celebration of learning next week. On Wednesday, I will send home a new Math bag and two centres will be available to do on the Google Classroom. Please let me know if you have any questions. This week was so much fun! We did so many exciting things and I am so excited to keep them going next week as well.  We did a design challenge using sugar cubes to build an ice castle. This was in preparation for our actual Ice Castle building on Monday. Just a reminder to bring in your ice blocks when you come to school, and place them by the sign that will say  "Mme Chelsey's ice blocks". We learned some tricks with the spoons, and had the chance to listen to some amazing folk music from Folklofolie.  Bonhomme Carnaval visited our classroom and we got to sing our " Bonhomme Bonhomme sais-tu jouer"  song with him. We also learned how to snowshoe which was a little tricky at first, but we all got there in the end!  I am going to share more pictures than usual this week!  Important dates : February 8th- Bring in Ice blocks- also Library books . January 25th-28th  We talked a little about Le Carnaval this week, and are getting ready to meet Bonhomme next week.  Tuesday, Feb 2nd we will be learning how to play the spoons Wednesday, Feb 3rd we will be snowshoeing  Monday, Feb 8th we will be building an ice castle Tuesday, Feb 9th we will be going sliding  * for the ice castle, milk cartons will work as well as juice cartons. As long as it is a rectangular shape and not rounded. * Here is the song we have been learning: This week we worked on the letter "Vv- le vent". We focused on the sound difference between "V" and "F" and started doing consonant/vowel blends like "Li,Va, Vi". Can your child name any words that have the sound "V" in French? We also continued our work with number bonds. We are practicing how to break apart numbers into smaller parts using manipulatives and as a step further how to represent them using an equation.
